Maritime-Continental Contrasts in the Properties of Low-Level Clouds: A Case Study of the Summer of the 2003 Yamase, Japan, Cloud Event

Table 1

Classification of a MODIS scene over Sanriku into upper-level cloud, lower-level cloud, mixed (upper and lower) cloud, and clear sky conditions. The lower- and upper-level clouds were defined by the cloud top pressure to be above and below 600 hPa, respectively (an altitude of approximately 4 km). Numbers in brackets indicate the percentages (%) of the total number of observations in each category.
