Production, Characterization, and Applications of Porous Materials

Call for Papers

Porous materials are becoming increasingly popular in several high impact sectors (aerospace, automotive, and biomedical) due to their lightweight structure, mechanical endurance, and biomimetic properties. Recent advances in sophisticated material design, development, and characterization techniques have sustained methodologies to tailor their properties based on application specific features. The technical challenge to comprehend and predict the response of these materials under external stimuli has dominated the interest of engineers and physicists, as porous structures exhibit material properties of enormous practical importance, and thus the capacity to systematically and effectively characterize these structures is a perspective of great importance to multiple scientific fields.

We seek to attract fundamental research as well as review articles that meet the forefront of this academic area. Our aim is to excite the continuing efforts to effectively describe the interdisciplinary phenomena governing nano- and microporous structures. This insight will facilitate the development of sufficient strategies enabling the production of sustainable porous materials with function based properties while ensuring mechanisms and procedures to prolong their efficiency. We invite heuristic, numerical, and theoretical articles covering all aspects, from production throughout potential applications of these materials and are particularly interested in investigations describing the modalities of their development and characterization. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Fabrication of porous materials and structures
  • Fundamental studies on material behavior
  • Probabilistic properties determination
  • Behavior during deformation and machining
  • Fracture mechanics and propagation
  • Advances in finite-element modeling
  • Application-based degenerative phenomena
  • Surface properties and contact mechanics
  • Erosion and corrosion wear phenomena
