Multicriteria Decision Analysis in Material Design, Selection, and Manufacturing

Description

The selection of a material for a specific engineering application necessitates that many criteria are satisfied at the same time. This can be a lengthy and expensive process, and often the final selection is based on compromise between advantages and disadvantages of candidate materials. Recently, multicriteria decision analysis has demonstrated significant capability and improvements in tackling complex design problems. It has also begun to find applications in optimization of advanced classes of materials, as well as material tailoring for a specific design, in addition to conventional selection problems. Concentrating on multicriteria decision analysis in material design, selection, and manufacturing, the main objective of this special issue is to provide a forum for exchanging state-of-the-art and novel ideas for producing added-value engineering products.

Authors are invited to submit original research articles and reviews to this special issue that include all aspects of multicriteria decision analysis in material design, selection, and manufacturing, from theoretical developments to practical applications.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Multicriteria decision analysis for simultaneous geometry and material optimization/selection processes
  • Material design/selection case studies in engineering/design applications (biomedical, aerospace, construction, automotive, marine, sports, etc.)
  • Design and optimization of multifunctional materials
  • Quality tools (QFD, DOE, FMEA, etc.) for improving materials, design, and manufacturing
  • Computational and modeling tools in materials selection and design
  • Environmental issues and materials selection
  • Influence of process parameters in materials selection
  • Theoretical analysis of multiobjective optimization methods for improving decision-making processes during design
