Kenaf Fiber Composites

Call for Papers

The importance of natural fiber composites has become more apparent due to their numerous benefits such as low cost and density. They have less abrasiveness to equipment and they need less energy for processing if compared to synthetic fiber composites. They are also renewable and biodegradable. Kenaf fiber is one of the renewable fibers used in this field. Kenaf short growing period, high biomass output, and good mechanical properties gave it attention by researchers. This special issue is concerned about kenaf plant, its plantation, harvesting, and properties, as well as the potential applications from kenaf reinforced polymer composites. Kenaf similar to other natural fibers faces some difficulties that need the attention of scientists and researchers. Short and long kenaf fibers, hybridization with other natural or synthetic fibers, effect of compatibilizers and coupling agents, material selection of the proper matrices, methods of producing kenaf fiber composites, and all the criteria related to the utilization of kenaf fibers as well as enhancement of compatibility of kenaf fiber composites will be included.

The objective of this special issue is to invite contributions from researchers and academicians from industries and research establishments in the area dealing with kenaf fiber composites for various potential applications. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparation and characterization of kenaf fibres
  • Enhancing kenaf fiber-polymer compatibility using compatibilizers and coupling agents
  • Methods of production of kenaf fiber composites
  • Characterization and optimization of kenaf fiber composites
  • Material selection of the proper matrices for a specific application
  • Uses of kenaf fiber composites
  • Assessment and evaluation of failure and fracture in kenaf fiber composites
  • Thermal, tribological, and other properties of kenaf fiber composites
  • Design and modeling of kenaf fiber composites
