Maximum parsimony phylogenetic tree based on all archaeal 16S rRNA gene sequences. The tree was calculated using the ARB software package [33]. Sequences are characterized by sample designation (km, Kamchatka Mutnovsky; ku, Kamchatka Uzon Caldera), length of amplicon ((b), 730 bp; (c), 950 bp), number of sequence, and accession number. Sequences derived from the Mutnovsky sample are shown in red and those from the Uzon sample in blue. Numbers at branch nodes are bootstrap values (only values ≥25 are shown). The tree is rooted with the 16S rRNA gene sequence of Aquifex aeolicus Vf5 as an outgroup.
