Growth substrate-dependent nitrocefin cleavage. Cultures of M. acetivorans transformed with pWM321 (negative control), pBlaNFSP (positive control, mcrB p-fsp-blaN), pMG3 (mtaC1 P-fsp-blaN), and pP0145NFSP (mtmC1 P-fsp-blaN) were grown on methanol (M) or trimethylamine (T) and assayed for Bla (see Materials and Methods) in liquid culture (a) or after streaking and growth on agar plates containing the respective substrate (b); shown are sections of the culture tubes (a) and plates (b) after 20 min of incubation at room temperature in the presence of nitrocefin.
