The ventricular zone (VZ) extends along the DV axis and contains proliferative neuronal precursor cells. The subventricular zone (SVZ) (shown by the blue dashed lines) also contains precursor cells. Progenitor cells migrate radially and tangentially from these zones to populate the specific areas of the brain.
