This figure demonstrates a very mildly diseased section of supraspinatus tendon. Even though this sample was considered to be “normal” by the surgeon, the picrosirius red-stained section shows a dropout of organized collagen (arrow in (b)) in otherwise healthy collagen. The trichrome section (c) shows the area is fibrocartilage. In the OCT images, back-reflection intensity changes dramatically between the two images, except the area with the arrow that essentially has no change (not birefringent) [11].
