Immune Responses Following Mouse Peripheral Nerve Xenotransplantation in Rats

Severe mononuclear cell infiltration and graft destruction in mouse nerve xenografts. Autologous (a)–(c) and xenogeneic mouse (d)–(f) nerve grafts were harvested at weeks 2 (a) and (d), 4 (b) and (e), and 8 (c) and (f) posttransplantation and analyzed by light microscopy with H&E staining. Five rats per group were examined at each time point, and representative samples ( 40) are shown. Mononuclear cell infiltration was detected (arrowheads) around nerve fiber bundle (NFB) in mouse nerve xenografts at all time points examined.
