Activation of NHE3 by glucocorticoids. Glucocorticoids stimulate NHE3 mRNA and protein expression. This stimulation results in an increase in NHE3 protein expression at the apical membrane. In addition, scaffolding of SGK1 by NHERF2 allows phosphorylation of NHE3. The phosphorylation of NHE3 by SGK1 facilitates sorting of NHE3 to the apical membrane.
