The Unexpected Role for the Aryl Hydrocarbon Receptor on Susceptibility to Experimental Toxoplasmosis

AhR-/- mice infected with T. gondii display profound weight loss and accelerated mortality compared to infected-wild type mice. Physical appearance (a), body weight (b), and survival rate (c) of AhR-/- and WT mice infected with 40 cysts of T. gondii were monitored during the times indicated. The values presented are the mean + SD of at least 6 animals per time point per group. The experiment shown is representative of at least four performed that gave similar results. 𝑃 < . 0 5 for body weight by student’s t-test; 𝑃 < . 0 0 0 1 for survival rate by log-rank test between the means of the values obtained with AhR-/- versus wild-type control mice.
