p53: The Attractive Tumor Suppressor in the Cancer Research Field

Dominant-negative effect of mutant p53 on wild-type p53. In response to cellular stresses, wild-type p53 is activated and induces cell cycle arrest and/or apoptotic cell death. Mutant p53 binds to wild-type p53 and inhibits its tumor suppressor function, thereby promoting tumor formation.
