Macrophages (CD68+ cells) in muscle before and after injury. We labeled cross sections of uninjured and injured TA muscles with antibodies to CD68 to identify macrophages (red) and DAPI to mark nuclei (blue). Focal areas of macrophage infiltration were evident in uninjured muscle of all dysferlinopathic strains as well as DMDmdx mice. At D3 following LSI, macrophage numbers increased significantly in these mutant strains.
