The distribution of publications by country of origin in the time before and after the boom of nanoresearch. The maps show record for the years prior to and after 2002. Prior to 2002 the majority of novel nano research was originally centralized in North America and certain pockets of Europe whereas China was a major source for manufacturing. More recently China has become a major player in research (not just manufacturing) and global efforts spanning South America, to portions of Asia and Africa, and Eastern Europe have also become evident alongside North America’s effort.
