Tamoxifen Treatment in Hamsters Induces Protection during Taeniosis by Taenia solium

Figure 5

Histological assessment of the duodenal inflammatory infiltrate associated with the Taenia solium intestinal infection. Scolex-associated duodenal samples from tamoxifen-treated (c), vehicle-treated (b), and control (a) hamsters were stained with hematoxylin-eosin. The inflammatory infiltrate degree was considered as the number of polymorphonuclear leukocytes per ten microvilli. No significant differences in the inflammatory level of the intestinal mucosa were observed among experimental groups. Data were pooled from two independent experiments using ten animals per group in each experimental series and cysticerci obtained from two different pigs. Differences were considered significant when .
