Impact of Mannose-Binding Lectin Deficiency on Radiocontrast-Induced Renal Dysfunction

Schematic representation of the complement cascade and its three pathways. Each of these pathways is triggered by different molecules on pathogen or foreign/dying cell surfaces. These three pathways merge at the level of the C3 convertase subsequently giving rise to the same effector molecules. Recent data indicate that the coagulation cascade is linked with the complement system via thrombin which acts as C5 convertase.
