CNB-001 a Novel Curcumin Derivative, Guards Dopamine Neurons in MPTP Model of Parkinson’s Disease

Figure 7

Photomicrographs of striatum viewed under transmission electron microscope. All panels demonstrate representative striata at 2000x. Control (a) and CNB-001 (d) alone treated groups showed normal ultrastructural morphology with enhanced mitochondrial population with membrane stability and cytoplasmic contents. Strikingly, MPTP treated group (b) showed mitochondria greatly enlarged and swollen rather than normal rod shaped. Moreover, there were also distinct loss of mitochondrial cristae and permeabilization of mitochondrial membrane. These toxicity changes were distinctly diminished upon CNB-001 treatment (c) showing normal nuclear morphology with increased mitochondrial population with structural stability.
