Interference of compromised/damaged cells of E. coli O157:H7 during quantification of intact cells by real-time PCR. E. coli O157:H7 cells numbers were measured by plate count (culturable), real-time PCR (total), and PMA-qPCR (live) methods. Each point presents the mean ± standard deviation for two independent replicates. (threshold cycle) > 35, no signal or only a weak signal was detected.
