Disruption of Lipid Rafts Interferes with the Interaction of Toxoplasma gondii with Macrophages and Epithelial Cells

T. gondii adhesion and internalization percentages with LLC-MK2 cells (a) and murine macrophages (b) that were treated with MβCD (5, 10, and 20 mM) for 30 min before the addition of T. gondii tachyzoites. The host cells were pretreated and washed before interacting for 10 minutes with the parasites (50 : 1). The data shown are the means ± SE of duplicated points from three independent experiments. The control values were set at 100. In LLC-MK2 cells, both adhesion and internalization were inhibited. However, only internalization was affected in macrophages.
