-Shogaol Inhibits α-MSH-Induced Melanogenesis through the Acceleration of ERK and PI3K/Akt-Mediated MITF Degradation

The proposed mechanism by which -shogaol inhibits melanin biosynthesis. Cartoon shows that -shogaol decreases expression of MITF in B16 Cells. The suppressive effect of -shogaol on melanin synthesis was induced through ERK and Akt activation. Suppression of the ERK or AKT pathway diminishes -shogaol-induced inhibition of melanin synthesis. Moreover, -shogaol inhibits melanin synthesis via proteasomal degradation of MITF.
