Intrinsic Immunomodulatory Effects of Low-Digestible Carbohydrates Selectively Extend Their Anti-Inflammatory Prebiotic Potentials

Immunomodulatory effects of nine different types of fibers: peripheral blood mononuclear cells were stimulated with control MG1363 strain or BB3001 strain, in order to induce a strong immune response. To demonstrate immunomodulatory effects, fibers were added at the same time as the bacteria. Levels of the cytokines IL-10 (a), IL-12 (b), and IFN-γ (c) were measured in the culture supernatant.
