Illustration of the interpretation of the measured MWT spectra (measured) of the RBC laboratory cultures with 8% (a) and 10% (b) P. falciparum parasitemia at trophozoite stage. The measured spectra (measured) are compared to the spectra reconstructed with the MMT interpretation model (calculated) and (res) denotes the difference between the measured and calculated spectra. The reconstructed spectra of the noninfected RBCs were scaled by factors 0.7 (a) and 0.8 (b) whereas the reconstructed spectra of infected RBCs were scaled by factors 8 (a) and 7 (b) for better comparison of the features.
