Schematic diagram of secretion stimulated by TRPA1 in colonic epithelial cells. Activation of apical TRPA1 by luminal AITC causes prostaglandins synthesis. The synthesized PGE₂ may then be released basolaterally. This released PGE₂ may act on EP₄ receptors. Activation of the EP₄ receptor induces an increase in which then activates the CFTR channels to induce secretion.
