Course of C. rodentium infection in wild type (WT) and C57-CD40L−/− mice. (a) WT mice (black lines) and (b) C57-CD40L−/− mice (grey lines) were orally inoculated with  CFU of C. rodentium and faecal bacterial numbers were determined. CFU/g of faeces per day and per mouse was plotted. While WT mice infected with  CFU of C. rodentium cleared bacterial infection, C57-CD40L−/− mice died.
