Proapoptotic Role of Potassium Ions in Liver Cells

Potassium ions depolarized the mitochondrial membrane potential in liver cells. We measured mitochondrial membrane polarization in L02 and HepG2 cells at 48 hrs using JC-10. The ratio of red to green fluorescence decreased significantly in both L02 and HepG2 cells treated with potassium ions compared to control.
