The Compound of Mangiferin-Berberine Salt Has Potent Activities in Modulating Lipid and Glucose Metabolisms in HepG2 Cells

Figure 7

Effects of MB salt/M/B on basal and insulin-stimulated glucose consumptions. (a) After serum starvation, cells were treated with DMSO (0.1%) or different concentrations of MB salt with or without 0.05 nM of human insulin for 24 h. Glucose levels in the culture media were assayed and glucose consumptions were calculated as described in Section 2. Values are mean ± SD of 3 separate experiments; , , and versus that of DMSO; versus that of basal glucose consumption. (b) HepG2 cells were treated with DMSO (0.1%) or an equal concentration of MB salt/M/B with or without 0.05 nM of human insulin for 24 h; glucose consumptions were then calculated. Values are mean ± SD of 3 separate experiments; , , and versus that of DMSO; versus that of basal glucose consumption; versus that of M alone or B alone. (c and d) Cells were pretreated with CC for 30 min; then M (c) or MB salt (d) was added and incubated for 24 h. DMSO (0.1%) was used as control. After treatment, basal glucose consumptions were calculated. Values are mean ± SD of 3 separate experiments; and versus that of DMSO; versus that of M alone (c) or MB salt alone (d).
