Eukaryotic ssDNA Viruses
Call for Papers
Eukaryotic single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) viruses are responsible for important diseases in plants, animals, and humans. Five families of ssDNA viruses are known, including plant pathogens from the Geminiviridae and Nanoviridae families and animal viruses from the Anelloviridae, Circoviridae, and Parvoviridae families. Whitefly transmitted geminiviruses cause yield losses in most dicotyledonous crops, with estimated economic losses of billions of dollars worldwide. Likewise, animal ssDNA viruses include devastating pathogens of livestock, as well as viruses of unknown pathogenesis that are highly prevalent in the human population. In addition to their economic and societal importance, the small size and rapid evolution rates of these viruses render them intriguing topics for detailed study. Finally, the introduction of metagenomics has revealed highly divergent ssDNA viral genomes, showing that we have seriously underestimated the diversity, environmental distribution, and host ranges of these viruses. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Characterization of economically important ssDNA viruses
- New methodologies or techniques
- Host-pathogen interactions
- Epidemiology
- Population genetics
- Gene function and regulation
- Control of ssDNA Viruses
- Evolutionary processes
- Diversity and environmental distribution
- Phylogeny and taxonomy
