Prooxidant Mechanisms in Toxicology

Description

Prooxidants are chemicals that induce oxidative stress through either creating reactive oxygen species or inhibiting antioxidants. Prooxidant Mechanisms in Toxicology covers the ongoing quest to define the cellular and molecular events caused by oxidative stress. Now, oxidative stress induced at molecular and cellular biology as well as genomic sciences plays an ever increasing role in mechanistic toxicology and could be related to many environmental and multifactorial chronic diseases such as Alzheimer’s, chronic heart diseases, liver dysfunction, and autism. It addresses the most common mechanism contributing in molecular and biochemical toxicology. It is of special interest to focus on the molecular mechanisms of action and detoxification of exogenous and endogenous chemicals and toxic agents. The scope includes effects on the organism at all stages of development, on organ systems, tissues, and cells, and on enzymes, receptors, hormones, and genes. Prooxidant mechanisms of drugs, agricultural, industrial, and environmental chemicals, natural products, food additives, and bacterial toxins are all subjects suitable for publication. Of particular interest are the protective and therapeutic strategies proposed to ameliorate the toxic effects induced by different prooxidants. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Drug metabolism and toxicology
  • Molecular prooxidant neurotoxicity
  • Pharmacology and toxicology of prooxidants
  • Toxins released into the environment and their effects/mechanisms of toxicity
  • Mechanisms and regulation of xenobiotic metabolizing enzymes, toxicogenetics, and xenobiotic transporters
  • Reactive oxygen/metabolites toxicity through DNA damage, mutagenesis, DNA repair, mechanisms of cell death, mitochondrial dysfunction, metals, reproductive toxicology, and developmental toxicology
  • Role of gut microbiota in prooxidant related toxicity
  • Prooxidant mechanisms of nanoparticles toxicity
  • Oxidative stress and different diseases (protective strategies)
