Polymeric Platforms to Ameliorate Emerging Health Pathologies

Description

Human diseases are increasing in prevalence and there is an emerging need to formulate platforms to ameliorate the difficulties associated with conventional drug delivery systems and conventional methods of treatments. Therefore, considerable efforts have been made to further understand and develop novel strategies to treat emerging health pathologies with the aim of maximizing the benefits associated with novel treatments. Currently, the use of conventional drug delivery systems and treatment modalities can result in problems associated with the pharmaceutical characteristics and biological fate of delivery systems such as short biological half-life, low aqueous solubility, crystallinity, rapid clearance, and generalized adverse effects on the patient. These issues can be surmounted with the use of nanocarriers and other drug delivery platforms to produce local or systemic effects with minimal side effects. Alternatively, changes in treatment methods could also be addressed in treating human pathologies.

This Special Issue focuses on emerging health pathologies and the various methods that can be employed to overcome the issues associated with conventional treatment modalities. We especially welcome submissions exploring novel carrier-based drug delivery systems. Authors are encouraged to submit original research as well as review articles covering any of the potential topics.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Nanocarriers as an ideal platform to ameliorate emerging pathologie
  • Polymer matrix scaffolds for drug delivery applications
  • Organic hydrogels for drug delivery applications
  • Scaffolds for tissue regeneration applications
  • Local drug delivery to ameliorate emerging pathologies
  • An understanding of and countermeasures for emerging health pathologies
  • Active and passive drug targeting
  • Natural product-based modalities to ameliorate emerging health pathologies
