Biomaterials: Chitosan and Collagen for Regenerative Medicine

Call for Papers

The regenerative medicine, which consists of three components: cell, nutrient, and scaffold, is very attractive therapy for all the fields of medicine and dentistry. Chitosan and collagen as biomaterials are strong candidates for the scaffold in regenerative medicine. Chitosan has numerous pharmacological activities, such as immunopotentiation, antihypertensive, serum cholesterol-lowering, antibacterial, sedative, and wound-healing-promoting properties. These biological activities would be favorable for scaffold fabrication. Furthermore, collagen from bovine, turkey, and fish (for avoiding zoonosis) has been widely investigated to apply as a scaffold and a carrier because of its bioactive properties such as its excellent biocompatibility, low antigenicity, high biodegradability, and cell growth potential.

We invite investigators to contribute original research articles, and review articles that will stimulate the continuing efforts to understand the production processes of chitosan and collagen and the conformation of these biomaterials for promoting the theoretical and practical availability. We are interested in articles that explore aspects of chemical and physical characteristics and biomedical applications. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Isolation/Purification/Modification
  • Drug delivery system and gene vector design
  • Biology for host response
  • Immunology and toxicology
  • Self-assembly and nanotechnology
  • Histocompatibility and biodegradation
  • Tissue engineering and medical application
