Computational Methods for Host Pathogen Systems Biology

Call for Papers

To capture the major advancements in the development of computational tools and models to study host-pathogen interactions, this journal has decided to dedicate a special thematic issue. This multidisciplinary special issue will capture the development in computational host-pathogen systems biology, by focusing on the improvement of existing and the development of new mathematical models and algorithms aiming to elucidate host-pathogen interactions.

We particularly take an interest in manuscripts that combine experimental and computational approaches to delineate host-pathogen interactions, with a particular focus on viral/bacterial infection and cellular immune response. Reviews that summarize results are also welcome. Papers dealing with the development of novel antiviral concepts would be of great interest. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Mathematical models of viral/bacterial infection, replication and/or immune response, and associated signaling pathways
  • Mathematical models of antiviral/bacterial treatment and treatment response
  • Mathematical methods to calibrate and analyze models of virus/bacterial-host interactions and their application
  • New methods to process and interpret data from high-throughput experiments focusing on virus/bacterial-host interactions, e.g. live cell imaging, yeast 2 hybrid, high throughput screening, and sequencing data
  • Methods for data integration and network-based interpretation
  • Computational antiviral/antibacterial drug target identification and drug design
  • Methods to mine literature and databases for virus/bacterial-host interactions
  • Machine learning methods to study virus-induced host signaling cascades and to reconstruct altered signaling pathways (network inference)
