Obstetric Anesthesia and Analgesia

Call for Papers

Providing anesthesia and analgesia to an obstetric patient is a challenging task as one is simultaneously managing two patients. Besides ensuring maternal well-being, taking care of baby’s safety is also of utmost importance. Pregnancy may be associated with many comorbid conditions which make management of these patients more complex. There has been an emergence of newer drugs and technology in anesthesia; however, their safety and efficacy in obstetric practice remains to be proven. Despite availability of numerous guidelines, certain controversies in anesthetic and analgesic management of these patients still remain.

We invite investigators to submit original research articles as well as review articles that address newer or controversial practices that can help to improve safety of obstetric anesthesia and analgesia. Potential topics include but are not limited to:

  • Regional anesthesia in pre-eclampsia and eclampsia—role of TEG monitoring
  • Combined spinal-epidural versus graded epidural for patients with heart disease
  • Management of obstetric hemorrhage
  • Obstetric epidural analgesia versus remifentanil infusion
  • Ephedrine versus phenylephrine—a relook at vasopressors in obstetric anesthesia
  • Postdural puncture headache in obstetric anesthesia
  • Bilateral paravertebral block for obstetric patients with coagulopathy
  • Maternal and fetal effects of anesthetic and analgesic drugs and techniques
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation in a pregnant patient and peripartum cesarean section
  • Simulator training of anesthesiologists for obstetric emergencies
  • Anesthetic management for emergent cesarean section

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/bmri/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/bmri/anesthesiology/obsta/ according to the following timetable:
