New Trends in Biotechnological Processes to Increase the Environmental Protection

Call for Papers

The utilization of biotechnological processes to increase the environmental protection is a good choice for the revalorization of agroindustrial residues and for the production of eco-friendly products. Nevertheless, for the application of biotechnological processes, at industrial scale, these have to be cost competitive with chemical synthesis. From this point of view, biotechnological processes have the advantage, in comparison with chemical synthesis, that various metabolites can be obtained simultaneously in the same process and these are more eco-friendly with environment.

We particularly take an interest in manuscripts that report enhancements in the treatment of agroindustrial residues, mainly based on biotechnological processes, as well as in the application of these metabolites obtained biotechnologically at different fields (biomedicine, food industry, pharmaceutical industry, or environmental bioremediation). Reviews that summarize new trends in the revalorization of agroindustrial residues are also welcome. The special issue will become an international forum for researchers to summarize the most recent developments and ideas in the field, with a special emphasis within the last five years. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • New trends in the revalorization of agroindustrial residues through biotechnological processes
  • Treatment of waste water using biotechnological techniques or biodegradable products
  • Application of biotechnology to the bioremediation of contaminated sites
  • Production of surface active compounds from agroindustrial residues
  • Biotechnology production of prebiotic metabolites from agroindustrial residues
  • Revalorization of agroindustrial residues to obtain pharmaceutical and biomedical products

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/bmri/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/bmri/biotechnology/ntbp/ according to the following timetable:
