Arthritis is a common clinical feature in rheumatic diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, spondylarthritis, crystal-induced arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and Sjogren’s syndrome. Joint inflammation and damage may result in disability and morbidity. Understanding the pathogenesis of inflammatory joint diseases remains a complex problem, although the level of understanding has progressed considerably in recent years. Knowledge of the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of inflammatory joint arthritis will lead to significant clinical benefit. Immune dysregulation has been implicated in the development of arthritis. In this special issue, we invite researchers to contribute with original articles as well as review articles that will stimulate the continuing efforts to understand the underlying immune mechanism that drives the pathology of joint inflammatory diseases and that may disclose innovative treatment interventions. We are particularly interested in articles describing the novel mechanism; new treatment strategies; clinical studies; and advances in molecular genetics and molecular diagnostics.
