Novel Bioinformatics Approaches for Analysis of High-Throughput Biological Data

Call for Papers

With the advent of high-throughput technologies, molecular biology is experiencing a surge in both growth and scope. As the amount of experimental data increases, so is the demand for the development of ways to analyze these results. For example, the next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology has generated various sequencing data. Mass spectrometry- (MS-) based experiments are also widely applied in proteomics studies. Rapidly advancing technologies have offered us the opportunities to examine the genome, transcriptome, and proteome in comprehensive ways. Yet, extracting meaningful information from this vast sea of data and approaching biological problems from a systems biology perspective have become the Holy Grail in bioinformatics.

The main focus of this special issue will be on new ideas, original research findings, and practical applications that intend to answer biological questions through high-throughput technologies. Methods and experiments, demonstrating novel platforms and systems, developing new bioinformatical tools and models, or presenting new directions for future research, are also welcome. This special issue will become an international forum for researchers to summarize the most recent developments and ideas in the field, with particular emphasis on the technical and observational results obtained within the last five years. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • NGS data analysis for genomics/transcriptomics/metagenomics/epigenomics
  • Microarray data analysis and transcriptional regulation
  • Proteome chip data analysis and translational applications
  • Computational proteomics for protein structure, function, and sequence analysis
  • Biological databases/tools
  • Any novel approaches to high-throughput biological data analysis
