mRNA level of PGC-1α in human skeletal muscle cells infected with retrovirus coding for PGC-1α compared to control cells infected with empty virus (a), and in muscle biopsies compared to cell cultures (b). mRNA was isolated from muscle biopsies and cultured myotubes, and mRNA expression was assessed by RT-PCR, as described in Section 2. Values are presented as means ± SEM of 3 experiments, each representing one donor, with 3 replicates each, normalized to levels of housekeeping gene 36B4.
