Structures of the polyamines putrescine, spermidine, and spermine. The monoisotopic molecular weights were calculated from their molecular formulas using Exact Mass Calculator, Single Isotope version from Scientific Instrument Services by Adaptus Solutions. Covalent binding of a polyamine to glutamine by transglutaminase causes the loss of NH3 (17 Da), whereas covalent binding of a polyamine to glutamate and aspartate via modification by 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide causes the loss of H2O (18 Da).
