Abstract

Specifically, we prove that under some conditions over the coefficients 𝑎 𝑖 , 𝑏 𝑖 , 𝑐 𝑖 , 𝑑 𝑖 ( 𝑖 = 1 , 2 ) , the semigroup generated by the linear operator of the system is exponentially stable, and under other conditions we prove that for all 𝑡 > 0 the system is approximately controllable on [ 0 , 𝑡 ] .

1. Introduction

In this paper we prove controllability for the following reaction-diffusion system with cross diffusion matrix:

We assume the following assumptions.

(H1) Ω is a smooth bounded domain in 𝑁 ( 𝑁 1 ) .(H2)The diffusion matrix 𝑀 = ( 𝑎 1 𝑎 2 𝑏 1 𝑏 2 ) has semisimple and positive eigenvalues 0 < 𝜌 1 𝜌 2 . (H3) 𝑐 𝑗 , 𝑑 𝑗 ( 𝑗 = 1 , 2 ) are real constants, 𝛼 𝑗 , 𝛽 𝑗 ( 𝑗 = 1 , 2 ) are real constants belonging to the interval ] 0 , 1 [ . (H4) 𝑢 0 , 𝑣 0 𝐿 2 ( Ω ) . (H5)The distributed controls 𝑓 1 , 𝑓 2 𝐿 2 ( [ 0 , 𝑡 ] ; 𝐿 2 ( Ω ) ) .

Specifically, we prove the following statements.

(i)If 𝑐 2 = 𝑑 1 = 0 and m i n { 𝑐 1 + 𝜆 1 𝛼 1 1 𝜌 1 , 𝑑 2 + 𝜆 1 𝛽 2 1 𝜌 1 } > 0 , where 𝜆 1 is the first eigenvalue of Δ with Dirichlet condition, or if 𝑐 2 0 , 𝑑 1 0 , 𝑐 1 0 , and 𝑑 2 0 ; then, under the hypotheses (H1)–(H3), the semigroup generated by the linear operator of the system is exponentially stable.(ii)If 𝑐 2 = 𝑑 1 = 0 and under the hypotheses (H1)–(H5), then, for all 𝑡 > 0 and all open nonempty subset 𝜔 of Ω the system is approximately controllable on [ 0 , 𝑡 ] .

This paper has been motivated by the work done in [1] and the work done by H. Larez and H. Leiva in [2]. In the work [1], the auther studies the asymptotic behavior of the solution of the system

Moreover, 𝑈 ( 𝑡 ) = l i m 𝑥 + 𝑢 ( 𝑥 ) and 𝑉 ( 𝑡 ) = l i m 𝑥 + 𝑣 ( 𝑥 ) satisfy the system of ordinary differential equations

In the work done in [2], the authers studied the system (1.1) with 𝑐 2 = 𝑑 1 = 0 , 𝑐 1 = 𝑑 2 , and 𝛼 1 = 𝛽 2 = 1 / 2 . They proved that if the diffusion matrix ( 𝑎 𝑏 𝑐 𝑑 ) has semi-simple and positive eigenvalues 0 < 𝜌 1 𝜌 2 , 𝑓 1 , 𝑓 2 𝐿 2 ( [ 0 , 𝜏 [ ; 𝐿 2 ( Ω ) ) , then if 𝜆 1 1 / 2 𝜌 1 + 𝛽 > 0 ( 𝜆 1 is the first eigenvalue of Δ ), the system is approximately controllable on [ 0 , 𝜏 ] for all open nonempty subset 𝜔 of Ω .

2. Notations and Preliminaries

In the following we denote by

We will use the following results.

4. Main Results

4.1. Generation of a 𝐶 0 -Semigroup

Theorem 4.1.
