T-Cell Memory: From Development and Regulation to Considerations for Vaccine Design

Call for Papers

New vaccines against some of the most devastating pathogens rely on the successful development of a sustained pool of CD4 or CD8 T-cell memory cells. As knowledge of the mechanisms that underpin T-cell memory differentiation and survival and the understanding of memory T-cell phenotype and function improves, so too the ability to rationally design vaccines and to design immune-based therapies to treat and prevent cancer and autoimmunity improves.

Over recent years the heterogeneity and plasticity of the memory T-cell pool, and the existence of distinct anatomical niches, have become clear. Currently the molecular and cellular mechanisms driving and regulating this diversity, as well as the relationship between different memory T-cell subsets and their ability to protect against infection and disease, are subjects of intense interest.

This special issue will highlight recent advancements in the field of memory T-cell biology. We invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Molecular, epigenetic, and functional phenotypes of CD4 and CD8 T cells
  • Mechanisms of memory T-cell survival and homeostasis
  • Role and function of memory T-cell subsets
  • Mathematical modeling of memory T-cell fate determination
  • Methods to characterize memory T-cell subsets
  • TCR-dependent and independent signals driving memory T-cell differentiation and survival
  • Cytokine control of memory T-cell development and function
  • Trafficking of memory T cells
  • Role of memory in cancer, tolerance, and autoimmunity
  • Considerations and requirements of memory T cells for vaccine design
