State-Space Algorithms for Estimating Spike Rate Functions

Figure 1

Test curves for simulation study. The six true functions (denoted Examples 1–6, green curves) are generated using a sigmoid combined with a Gaussian (10) using the parameter pairs for height of Gaussian, , and width of Gaussian, , of (10, .5), (20, .5), (10, 1), (20, 1), (30, 1), and (100, 3). Each row shows 10 noisy test sets superimposed (blue) and generated by adding zero-mean normally-distributed random noise to the true functions. The values of noise variance are 1 (top row), 4 (middle row) and 9 (bottom row).
