A Numerical Method of Reduced Complexity for Simulating Vascular Hemodynamics Using Coupled 0D Lumped and 1D Wave Propagation Models

Schematic overview of the numerical method used to compute pressures and flows. During a “time loop,” a cardiac cycle with cycle time is simulated with time step . Subsequently, a hemodynamic convergence criterion ( ) is computed to assess whether pressure and flow waveforms are in steady state. If not, subsequent cardiac cycles are simulated in a “hemodynamics loop” until convergence is achieved.
