New Antidepressants and Cardiovascular System

Call for Papers

Depression has consistently been associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Because of their safer side effect profile over tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) and irreversible MAOIs, “new” antidepressants have opened the perspective for treating depression in cardiac patients. However, much still have to be known regarding specificities of new antidepressants concerning their impact on the cardiovascular system and their efficacy and safety in patients with cardiovascular conditions.

We invite authors to submit original research and review articles characterizing specificities of “new” antidepressant (non-TCAs and nonirreversible MAOIs) regarding their effect on the cardiovascular system and also regarding their use in specific cardiovascular conditions.

Potential manuscripts about effects on cardiovascular system include, but are not limited to:

  • Effects on heart rate, blood pressure, and ECG (conduction, rhythm, QT dispersion)
  • Effects on HRV, SNS, and PSNS activity
  • Effects on platelet aggregation
  • Effects on inflammatory system
  • Effects on endothelium
  • Effects on formation of atherosclerotic plaque
  • Effects on hypertension
  • Effects on cholesterol
  • Effects on glycemic control and diabetes (as a factor of risk for CVD)
  • Effects on weight and obesity
  • Effects on bleeding
  • Effects on HPA and the impact on the cardiovascular system
  • Effects on sleep and the impact on the cardiovascular system

Potential manuscripts about the use of new antidepressants in cardiovascular conditions include, but are not limited to:

  • Pros and Cons of treating depression to inhibit the development of new heart disease and to improve cardiovascular prognosis
  • Use in patients with heart failure
  • Use in patients with cardiac arrhythmias
  • Use in patients after myocardial infarction and coronary artery disease
  • Use in patients with metabolic syndrome
  • Interaction with cardiovascular drugs
  • Use in stroke patients
  • Use in surgical patients and the bleeding risk

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/cpn/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/ according to the following timetable:
