A Dual Case of Peritonitis and Central Nervous System Infection Caused by Nutritionally Variant Streptococcal Species

<div>Satellite growth of nutritional variant streptococci (NVS) around<i> Staphylococcus aureus</i>. Small colonies of NVS are seen in areas on the blood agar plate where<i> S. aureus</i> has completely lysed red blood cells (<i>β</i>-hemolysis), releasing nutrients required for NVS growth.</div>
