Doppler assessment of stroke volume via the left ventricular outflow tract. This illustration demonstrates the physiologic principle of measuring stroke volume by measuring the LVOT diameter and the VTI at that point. A characteristic curve is generated by proper placement of a probe in line with the flow of blood out of the LVOT.
