Impact of Serum Biomarkers and Clinical Factors on Intensive Care Unit Mortality and 6-Month Outcome in Relatively Healthy Patients with Severe Pneumonia and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

<table>Flow chart of patient selection in this study: 342 patients with severe pneumonia and ARDS were admitted to medical ICUs within the study period, while 56 patients were enrolled in this study. Among the 56 patients, 40 patients were ICU survivors and 16 were ICU nonsurvivors. Only 35 patients were successfully discharged from the hospital, and 25 patients were considered as 6-month life independent.</table>
