Effect of pterostilbene on HRG-β1-stimulated MCF-7 cell viability. Serum-starved MCF-7 cells were pretreated with 0, 5, 10, 20 or 30  M of pterostilbene for 30 min before 20 ng/ml of HRG-β1 was added into the culture medium. After 24 h of incubation, the cell viability was determined by the MTT assay as described in Section 2, and the results are shown as the cell number relative to that of the unstimulated cells. Each experiment was independently performed three times and expressed as the mean ± SE. ** compared with the HRG-β1-treated control; # compared with serum-starved control.
