Effect of LB extract and taurine on high-glucose-induced loss of cell viability. ARPE-19 cells pretreated with LB extract (0.1, 0.5, and 0.75 mg/mL) and taurine (0.001, 0.1, and 1 mM) were exposed to high glucose (33.3 mM) for 48 h. Cell viability was determined by MTS assay. Results are expressed as percentage of control and presented as mean ± SEM ( independent experiments). # versus control; * , ** versus high glucose (HG). Mannitol (M) served as osmotic control.
