Demethoxycurcumin Retards Cell Growth and Induces Apoptosis in Human Brain Malignant Glioma GBM 8401 Cells

Figure 4

Demethoxycurcumin induced DNA fragmentation in GBM 8401 cells. (a) The cells were treated with DMC for 16 hours. The DNA fragmentation was detected by fluorescein-labeled DNA via confocal microscopy system. The apoptotic cells exhibit nuclear green fluorescence. All cells stained with propidium iodide exhibit red cytoplasmic fluorescence. (b) Quantification of DNA fragmentation by measuring the fluorescence intensities by flow cytometry. The data showed that DNA fragmentation levels were significantly elevated in cells incubated with DMC incubation for 16 hours. All data were reported as the means (±SEM) of at least three separate experiments. Statistical analysis used t-test, with the significant differences determined at the level of * versus 0 μM control group.
