Effects and Interaction of Icariin, Curculigoside, and Berberine in Er-Xian Decoction, a Traditional Chinese Medicinal Formula, on Osteoclastic Bone Resorption
Figure 3
Inhibitory effects of I, B, C, and their combination on osteoclastic bone resorption. Primary osteoblasts and bone marrow cells were cocultured with a sterilized dental slice in α-MEM medium in the presence of 1, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (10 nM) and dexamethasone (100 nM) and treated with or without I, B, C, and their combination for 12 days. Resorption pits were observed under a microscope, and the pit area was quantitated with image analysis software. (a) Bone resorption pit on dental slices (×100); (b) the change of bone resorption pit area under the treatment of I, B, C, and their combination. Data were presented as mean ± standard deviation. The experiments were repeated 3 times in five replicate samples (). , , compared with control. The number on the column is q value, indicating the interaction between I, B, and C.
