Emodin, a Naturally Occurring Anthraquinone Derivative, Ameliorates Dyslipidemia by Activating AMP-Activated Protein Kinase in High-Fat-Diet-Fed Rats

Figure 4

Representative immunoblots of hepatic protein levels of SREBP-1, FAS, and CPT-1 in HFD-fed rats receiving 8-week treatment. Rats not receiving any treatment were given the same volume of vehicle (distilled water) used to dissolve the test medications. Immunoblots are of tissues isolated from vehicle-treated RCD-fed rats, vehicle-treated HFD-fed rats, emodin (40 mg kg−1 per day)-treated HFD-fed rats (emodin 40), emodin- (80 mg kg−1 per day) treated HFD-fed rats (emodin 80), or pioglitazone- (20 mg kg−1 per day) treated HFD-fed rats (pioglitazone). Similar results were obtained with an additional 4 replications. Protein levels are expressed as the mean with SEM ( per group) in each column. and compared to the values of vehicle-treated HFD-fed rats in each group, respectively.
